I graduated as a designer in the spring of 2024. I graduated from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences with a major in textile design. I have grown up surrounded by crafts and textiles, and I have developed a love for soft textiles. Textures are important to me, whether they are shaped by nature or created by humans.

The surfaces and textures created by nature are a constant source of inspiration for me. I am always excited by new techniques, and I use many different styles in my sketching. In surface design, I enjoy working with vibrant color combinations. I also want to design long-lasting and sustainable products, while respecting raw materials and not forgetting beauty and recyclability.

In my previous work experience, I have done a lot of customer service, and I enjoy working with clients. I collaborate flexibly to ensure that products are always designed to meet the client’s needs and wishes.

Print design for wallpaper, 3rd place in i-dott Surface Pattern Design Competition

The competition category was called Animal Abstract. The task was to design an animal pattern that is both abstract and decorative. The pattern had to show your personal touch and could not be entirely computer-generated. I drew inspiration from my memories of snorkeling and diving. The colorful underwater world served as the starting point for the pattern. I sketched using various techniques and ended up combining watercolor textures and line drawings in the final pattern.

Surface pattern collection

The design brief for this project was given by Finlayson. The starting point for my design was the Heimtextil 22/23 trend Empowered Identity. The purpose of the trend is to create connections between cultural heritage and new generations. Traditional fabrics and craft methods are at the core of this trend. I grew up watching the craftsmanship of my relatives and have been doing crafts myself since I was little. This love for traditional Finnish craft techniques and Finland’s wonderful bright summer served as the inspiration for these patterns. While sketching, I combined various techniques, including painting, embroidery, and crocheting, to create interesting textures. In designing the patterns, I also aimed to maintain that three-dimensional effect. The colors in the patterns glow with the wonderfully diverse floral colors of summer flowers and various shades of green. These patterns were designed for duvet cover set, woven blanket and cushion cover.

Knitted scarf, 100% merinowool, machine knitted jacquardknit made in Tuusula by Kutomo Holopainen

The task was to design a unique patterned knitted scarf inspired by a foreign culture. My inspiration came from the relaxed surf culture of Australia. I wanted to create a thick square scarf that could serve as both a scarf around the neck and, when needed, as a warm blanket or throw. I wanted to include a water theme in the center of the scarf, which takes my mind directly to the core of the surf style. Frangipani flowers evoke images of the tropics and warmth. The shape of the leaves was inspired by the silhouette of the Sydney Opera House, and the pattern’s filling draws from the intricate dot paintings of Aboriginal art. Bright colors brighten up the gloomy autumn air, and wrapping up in this warm scarf feels like coming into your own safe haven.

Woven fabric

Warp 100% cotton, weft 50% wool and 50% linen. Industrially woven in Hämeenlinna by Tekstiiliverstas. The goal was to design a fabric/textile that aligns with the values of sustainable development. In the final weave, a new structure was created by combining test swatches from a group of three people. The design was inspired by a fascination with woven round and teardrop shapes. Each person wove their own fabric using their chosen yarn. My fabric is designed for use as a baby carrier. Linen adds structure and firmness to the fabric, while wool provides softness and adaptability.
