Saila Härkki

I’m Saila Härkki, clothing designer and creative artist.
I graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design in 1994 as a clothing designer and have since completed a specialized vocational degree in Product Development. I had the honor of being awarded 2013 Clothing Designer of the Year by Ornamo ry.

As a clothing designer, I have strong professional skills and know-how in the design of technical leisure, outdoor and sportswear, as well as product development. I have been designing in Finland’s most famous outdoor clothing companies since 1994, and in 2016 my work took me to Sweden as design director. As the chief designer of Luhta Sportswear Company Oy’s Icepeak brand, I was able to take part in creating one of the most significant success stories in the Finnish clothing industry. My professional skills and creative courage were a big part of the developing design team and the style direction of the brand.
In the spring of 2022, it became timely to start the business Saila Härkki Design Oy.

THE GOAL is to increase the customer’s brand value with individual design, which is supported by a deep understanding of going through the entire design and production process and strong three decades of experience in technical outdoor, urban and sportswear design.

MY WORKING WAY inspires a strong sense of color and trends, which gives the ability to create and modify the design to suit changing market conditions. A good knowledge of fabrics and different techniques, as well as knowledge of technical solutions, enables the ability to choose the best combination for each plan.
This creative combination of product development and design leads to a successful fit, functionality and appearance of the product, where the right pricing is also taken into account.

ART – Saila Härkki
As a self-taught artist, my journey into the fascinating world of art began in 2014 and since then I have been making art mainly on commission. Passion for painting is more than just a hobby for me, it is a counterweight to industrial clothing design. Above all, art is a liberating experience for me, an “exploration of new horizons”, which fascinates and inspires me to test its different forms and techniques. Finnish nature, forests and trees, inspire with their diversity and beauty. The play created by nature’s light and shadow transforms into impressive visualizations in my works.

Description of my art:
In the mixed-media relief spiritual works painted with acrylic combined various qualities, techniques and in layers of different levels. The unifying factor is metal, in shimmering shades of silver or gold. The metal elements bring the artwork to life and change it according to the lighting, through the morning dawn, the sunlight of the day and the twilight of the night.
