Tokyo Ajisai textile print - bed linen mockup
Marssi textile print. Marssi, ‘march’, refers to the tireless and endless march of tiny little ants.
I drew this print whilst attending to my husband at Tajimi hospital in Gifu, Japan, during the hot summer of 2018. He had severely broken his leg, and had to stay in the hospital for weeks.
Ink drawing on paper, further modified on computer.
A coat prototype from Connection Error, experimental capsule collection focused on 2D > 3D shapes and the many facets of Japanese aesthetics in modern times.
The coat is made of grey wool, bonded together with digitally printed polyester satin on reverse. The textile print can be seen as 3D when looked at with 3D glasses.
When laid flat, the grey side is meant to resemble a tranquil stone garden - symbolically changing in to the bright, loud, eternally evolving landscape of modern Japanese cities when worn. The coat can be partially "unravelled", enabling the wearer to style and wear it in various different ways.
