Veera Tamminen works in Helsinki, with main focus on different fields in ceramics, while creating her own body of work out of porcelain. Tamminen graduated form Aalto University in 2015. She debuted with her first solo exhibition “Po & Po (Polaroid & Porcelain)” 18.11.2015 - 5.12.2015 in Gallery Katariina's Studio for Helsinki Artists' Society and she had her second “Pt. 2” in March 2017 at Myymälä2 Gallery.
Her works have been exhibited in several exhibitions both abroad and in her homeland. She was one of the four young ceramic artists exhibiting their works at Arabia Art Society's Gallery in 2013 and her works were displayed in a juried ceramics exhibition at the historical ceramics museum in Ludwigsburg castle, Germany, in 2014. She was a part of the exhibition of Finnish contemporary ceramic art held at Helsinki Designmuseum in 2014-2015.
She had her third solo exhibition “PRIVÉ” gathering around the public aspects of a private ongoing conversation. The exhibition “PRIVÉ” included a guerilla zine/pamphlet, where the artist shared a private correspondence, discovery of consciousness, mind envy, and psyche. The exhibition was held in April 2018 at Kalleria.
She had her fourth solo exhibition “Welcome to the real life according to somebody else'' for Helsinki Artists Society’s HAA Gallery/Galleria Rantakasarmi in February/March 2020, where she gave an artist talk about immaterial property rights over material, personal aspects on communally grown knowledge, open source mentality within ceramic art, material mind hack, and the method for infinite source of glaze colours. The lecture is based on published articles on her blog.
Within the context of the home objects and design, Tamminen’s personal interest goes beyond the aspects of functionals, the individuality of a private and a refined style and taste, the material aesthetics, and of ceramic object as a multidimensional base for a vision. She does small scale production by hand for her online porcelain shop Piece of dab.
For Tamminen, porcelain is a contemporary material, for contemporary artworks. She works project basedly, so that a larger thematic content will go through the whole exhibition. She considers her figurative artworks to be statements of contention of private and public subjects.
In her artistic work, she’s been working on small scale series with illustrations that draw out of fragility, figuratif and doom. In her own art she aims to illustrate the subjective moods and states of mind, emotions to be observed as objectively comfortable.
Currently her works are exhibited at Hanasaari in Artists O and Fiber Art Sweden exhibition until January 2022. Her "Pluie" cup is a finalist in COFFEE CUP exhibition and competition in Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taipei, Taiwan.
